ISMIS'96 - How to get there from anywhere

You have four possibilities to get to the conference site:
  1. from anywhere to Warsaw ( by plane, by train or by bus),
    then to Zakopane by Conference bus
    available on Sunday, 9th June, only
    or, using public transportation means
  2. from anywhere to Warsaw ( by air, by train or by bus),
    then to Zakopane (by train or by bus),
    or
  3. from anywhere to Cracow (by train or by bus),
    then to Zakopane (by train or by bus).
  4. from any where to Warsaw ( by air, by train or by bus),
    then to Cracow (by train or by bus),
    then to Zakopane (by train or by bus).
In case you use public transportation, take advantage of shuttle bus to get from Zakopane city center to the conference site.

WARNING: Time tables of public transportation will be subject of minor changes by June 1st, 1996.

You have four possibilities to get back to Warsaw or Cracow:

  1. from Zakopane to Warsaw by Conference bus
    available on Thursday, 13th June, only
    or, using public transportation means
  2. from Zakopane directly to Warsaw (by train or by bus),
    or
  3. from Zakopane to Cracow (by train or by bus).
  4. from Zakopane to Cracow (by train or by bus),
    and then to Warsaw (by train or by bus),
Beside Zakopane, both cities: Warsaw and Cracow are worth visiting during your stay in Poland.

Cracow (in Polish: Krakow, in German: Krakau) is called nowadays the "Royal City" as it was the seat of Polish Kings since the times of the King Wladyslaw the Little till Zygmunt Waza the Third who moved the capital to Warsaw. The royal castle on the Wawel hill is the major attraction point for tourists. Walking round Old Cracow may please everybody.

Warsaw (in Polish: Warszawa, in other languages: Warschau, Varsovia etc.) is the capital of Poland. The Old City with the Royal Palace are of great interest for tourists.

Many Europpean cities have direct bus and/or railway connections both with Warsaw and Cracow.

Going to the Conference site

Coming to Warsaw from the World

By plane:
landing at OKECIE airport, e.g. using LOT Airlines Call 628-75-80 or 952 or 953 in Warsaw (reservation and information).
Airport-City busses or city bus No 175 carry you directly to city center (WARSZAWA CENTRALNA railway station).
Warning: Avoid using taxi at the air port.
By train:
Most European capitals and many cities have direct railway connections with Warsaw, trains generally stopping at WARSZAWA CENTRALNA railway station. Contact your local railway station or call international train information in Warsaw:
620-45-12, 25-99-42.
By bus:
Many European cities have direct bus connections with Warsaw, busses usually stopping at WARSZAWA ZACHODNIA bus (and railway) station.

Traveling from Warsaw to Zakopane Directly

Conference Bus

 A special coach to Recreation Center in Koscielisko will leave Warsaw on Sunday, 9th June, at midday. The journey will take approx. 7 hours. The coach will start from the center of Warsaw (near Warsaw Central Railway Station - Warszawa Centralna) and go past "Warszawa" hotel and Warsaw Airport. So the journey should begin not earlier than 11.30 and not later than 12.30. The exact time and place of departure from the center of Warsaw will be given later; it depends on your need.

If you are interested in going by the special coach, please let Ewa Gasiorowska-Wirpszo, email: < gasior@ipipan.waw.pl> , know (the sooner the better) if you want to start from:
( ) the center of Warsaw
( ) "Warszawa" hotel
( ) Warsaw airport
or tell the exact time of your arrival to Warsaw on Sunday (if it is not between 11.30 and 12.30)

By Car

Though there are many rent-a-car services in Poland, we strongly advice not to go to Zakopane by car, as the driving conditions are extremely hard in high mountains.

Traveling from Cracow to Zakopane

Trains

After arriving to Cracow I suggest to take a public coach to Zakopane (you should get off at Krakow Glowny). The journey is shorter (about 2.5 hours) than going by train (about 4 hours).

*Coaches from Cracow (Krakow) to Zakopane - the journey takes about 2.5 hours:
5.30, 6.10, 7.30, 8.10, 9.00, 9.40, 10.40, 11.30, 12.20, 13.15, 14.00, 14.30, 15.10, 16.20, 17.00, 17.30, 18.05, 19.00, 20.50.

Shuttle Bus

If you are going to choose public transportation and if you tell Ewa Gasiorowska-Wirpszo, email: < gasior@ipipan.waw.pl> , the exact time of your arrival to Zakopane a shuttle bus shall be arranged for you.

On Foot

On foot, you need 20 minutes only.

Going home

Traveling from Zakopane to Warsaw Directly

Conference Bus

 A special coach, from Zakopane straight to Warsaw, will leave Recreation Center on Thursday, 13th June, about 10.00. It should reach Warsaw airport about 5 p.m. and Warsaw Central Railway Station (Warszawa Centralna) about 5.30 p.m.
